How to Create Your Own WordPress Website in Less Than 10 Minutes

There are so many choices and questions when it comes to creating a website. To answer some of the questions you may have, I’ve decided to put together a simple guide on how to create your very own site from scratch, with screenshots to help you with every step! Plus, I’ll throw in some expert tips.

If you decided you want to go with WordPress as your website platform, then you’ll need to pick a company to host your site with. I recommend hosting with BlueHost – they offer a 1-click install of WordPress, offer 24/7 support, are extremely affordable, and provide you with a free domain name for the first year. You can’t beat that!

So, let’s dive into creating your site!

Step 1 – Visit

BlueHost offers a simple, 1-click install of WordPress, free of charge. The first step is to visit and click the green “Get Started” button.

They are always offering a special introductory offer for the first 12 to 36 months (depending on which offer you accept), and offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. It doesn’t hurt to sign up just to try WordPress out if you are on the fence about what to use for your new site. If you aren’t happy with BlueHost or WordPress for any reason, simply cancel and get your money back.

Step 2 – Pick A Hosting Plan

There are a few different options to choose from, but if you are just starting out, I would recommend the Basic plan. The Basic plan offers hosting for one website, plenty of storage for your files and WordPress installation, a free SSL certificate, and more. If you would like to have your site backed up automatically, the Choice Plus plan offers this, along with domain privacy (which is also available as an add-on for 99 cents for any plan).

Again, if you are not sure, just choose the Basic plan – you can always upgrade at a later date if you feel it is necessary.

Step 3 – Choose Your Domain Name (Web Address)

This may be the hardest part of setting up your new site – choosing your name! If you already have a domain name, enter it in the box on the right, but if not, enter the address you want visitors to head to when they visit your website in the box on the left.

If you aren’t really sure right now but want to try out WordPress, click the “Choose later!” option at the bottom of the page – your account will be credited with a “domain credit” and you can decide your domain at a later date!

If you want something different besides a .com address, just click the dropdown in the box on the left to choose between options like .org, .us, and .biz.

Step 4 – Create Your Account

For this step, fill in the form fields to begin creating your account and double check your hosting package information.

For the package extras, make sure you uncheck any of the extras you do not want to purchase, since there are a few they auto check for you. Also, select the account plan length you wish to purchase (the longer, the cheaper per month). I recommend purchasing the Domain Privacy Protection, as this keeps your contact information from being published along with your domain name.

(Also, quick hint: if you move your mouse to the corner of your screen like you are about to exit the page, it prompts you to click a button and save even more per month)

Step 5 – Pick Your Theme

BlueHost offers a few different themes to choose from, so feel free to take some time on this page and determine if one of the themes offered is right for your site. If not, you can click the “Skip this Step” button at the bottom of the page and you can install a different theme later (if selecting this option, a plain default theme will be used until you pick a new theme).

Step 6 – Make Your Site Shine

Congratulations! You’ve purchased your hosting package, WordPress has been installed and configured automatically, and your site is now live on the Internet. Now is the time you get to really dive in, configure your site how you want it to be designed, and have fun!

If you have any issues during the setup process, BlueHost’s live chat feature is readily available, and their Customer Support agents can help you with any hiccups you might encounter during the purchase process.

WordPress is my favorite platform for websites because of its power, versatility, and abundance of themes and plugins. I’m really excited for you to begin your online journey with a brand new site on an amazingly powerful platform 🙂
